The horrific escape of tens of thousands of farmed salmon from a Loch Linnhe fish farm as a result of Storm Amy served as an appalling reminder that the semi-closed containment technology proposed for the 8000 tonne development at Lurignish would be an even greater disaster waiting to happen.
Not only do the solid sides make the cages even more vulnerable to the effects of such a storm, but the vast numbers of fish - up to a million proposed for each cage - would mean that escape numbers could be catastrophic.
James Appleton, filmmaker and environmentalist, has made a powerful short film about the disaster and the impact on our fragile wild salmon population. The film features interviews with two people who know the Loch Linnhe environment and the potential impacts of such a catastrophe perhaps better than anyone, Andy Corbe and Davy Gunn.
